Renewable Energy

Vijverberg & Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy is energy derived from natural sources that are continuously replenished. This is energy from sun, wind, soil, hydropower, outdoor heat, and biomass. It is demanding work to extract, transport and store these sources. Many projects require modifications or a completely new facility to supply the Netherlands with renewable energy. Vijverberg utilises its expertise and knowledge for the benefit of the client and the contractor.

Vijverberg is your partner in renewable energy projects.

Building a green hydrogen plant

Shell is building Europe’s largest green hydrogen plant in Rotterdam. Contractor ASK is building the steel structure for Shell’s 200 MW electrolyser on the Second Maasvlakte in the Port of Rotterdam. It produces 60,000 kilograms of renewable hydrogen per day. The renewable power for the electrolyser comes from Hollandse Kust (north), the offshore wind farm partly owned by Shell.

The role of Vijverberg

We deploy our knowledge and expertise in planning and coordinating the construction of the steel structure. In addition, we support ASK in contracting the project.

Greenpoint Valley: Northwest Europe’s first green ammonia hub

Vesta Terminals wants to renovate and expand an existing storage facility with the aim of becoming the first green ammonia hub “Greenpoint Valley” in Northwest Europe. The development of green ammonia and hydrogen will strengthen security of supply in Europe.

The terminal in Vlissingen is well located for the supply, by ocean-going vessels, of green ammonia loaded into barges and rail cars. It is planned to connect the terminal to the Dutch hydrogen pipeline.

The role of Vijverberg

Vijverberg supported Vesta with Project Management in the engineering phase to assess the feasibility for the project. We are also supporting Vesta in the contracting of the project.

Construction of a purchasing station for Maasvlakte 2 wind farm

On the second Maasvlakte, Eneco is building a wind farm with 116 megawatts of power on behalf of the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management. The 22 innovative onshore wind turbines will be connected to a substation by SPIE.

The green power will be transformed to grid voltage via the substation and is thus the link between the wind farm and the energy grid. The contract to SPIE was contracted as a ‘Design & Construct’ under UAV-GC 2005.

The role of Vijverberg

On behalf of SPIE, Vijverberg was responsible for the project management with regards to the construction of the substation and the contract management under UAV-GC.

Converting plant to generate power with Biomass

Onyx Power Group is a European energy provider of weather-independent supply of electricity and heat. At four locations in Germany and the Netherlands, Onyx Power operates five coal and biomass power plants with a generating capacity of around 2,350 megawatts.

In the future the company wants to contribute to grid stability and security of supply with modern energy solutions. That is why Onyx is partially converting a coal-fired power plant into a biomass power plant to generate energy.

The role of Vijverberg

For the conversion of the power plant, the contract team supports Onyx in drawing up the contracts with the contractors, for which we use FIDIC contracts.
